Balticfloc BFlex Ecowool Panels

BFlex ecowool panels are an eco-friendly thermal insulation material designed for wood-frame walls, roofs, ceilings, and other building structures. BFlex is made from ecowool formed into soft, flexible panels with a thickness of 5–10 cm (2–4 in.).

What are BFlex panels used for?

BFlex panels can be used to insulate a range of building structures in both new construction and renovation projects. They provide effective thermal insulation in a form that is easy to handle and install.

The panels are convenient for wood-frame structures and exterior walls. They can also be installed between rafters in pitched or mansard roofs and used in floor and ceiling structures. Made from eco-friendly cellulose fibers, BFlex is hypoallergenic and safe for human health.

How are BFlex ecowool panels manufactured?

1

Waste paper preparation

Dry, uncontaminated paper and cardboard are sorted. Laminated and glossy materials are removed during this process. The remaining waste paper is cleaned of plastic and metal contaminants before being shredded.
2

Cellulose defibration and additive treatment

The shredded paper is gradually broken down into smaller and smaller fibers until its original paper form is no longer recognizable. The result is a soft, fluffy material that can be formed into panels. During this defibration process, a controlled amount of natural salt additive is added to the fibers.
3

Panel formation

The cellulose fibers are formed into a fiber mat using a specialized process involving airflow. Balticfloc can produce insulation panels up to 10 cm (4 in.) thick. The resulting fiber mat is then cut into 1200 × 600 mm (47 × 24 in.) panels.

Packaging

After forming, the panels are packaged in containers designed to fit their shape and dimensions. The packaging protects the finished insulation from contamination and environmental exposure during storage and transportation.

What properties do BFlex panels offer?

BFlex panels offer many of the same properties as loose-fill ecowool in a soft, flexible panel. Unlike loose-fill ecowool, they can be installed without specialized blowing equipment, making them suitable for do-it-yourself insulation projects.

Thermal performance

BFlex panels have a thermal conductivity (λ) of 0.039 W/(m·K), providing effective thermal insulation. Their hygroscopic properties also allow the cellulose fibers to absorb and release moisture as conditions change.

Sound dampening

The fibrous, porous structure of BFlex helps absorb sound and reduce noise transmission through walls, partitions, and ceilings. This is especially useful for interior walls and partitions in homes and office buildings where sound reduction between rooms is important.

Stable shape

BFlex is a soft but durable insulation panel that is easy to handle. Its dense fiber structure traps air within the material, supporting its thermal insulation properties.

The panels maintain straight edges so they can fit closely into the intended space and reach into corners. They can also be cut or trimmed using a hand saw or serrated knife.

Water vapor permeability

The cellulose-fiber composition of BFlex allows water vapor to pass through the insulation. This vapor permeability helps moisture move through the building structure rather than becoming trapped within the insulation. The vapor permeability of surrounding materials should also be considered to ensure the layers work properly together.

Mold and pest resistance

BFlex cellulose fibers are treated with natural salts before the panels are formed, helping protect the material against mold growth. When the panels are installed correctly and the surrounding structure allows moisture to escape, conditions within the insulation are less favorable for mold. The treated cellulose also helps protect the material from pests.

Fire safety

Cellulose is a combustible material, but natural salts are added during production to improve the fire performance of BFlex. When exposed to fire, these salts release water of crystallization, helping slow the spread of flames. BFlex has a reaction-to-fire classification of Class E under EN 13501.
